ELTIM offers installation of our luminaires. We recommend having a licensed professional install the fixtures.
What does an LED lifespan of 50,000 hours mean?
50,000 hours would imply 5.7 years if the lights are operated 24 hours a day, 7.6 years at 18 hours a day, and 11.4 years at 12 hours a day.
What are the factors that affect LED lifespans?
The thermal management of the LEDs. If the LEDs come on a standalone chip, appropriate heat sinks have to be designed to prevent premature failure. Running LEDs at currents higher than specified makes them run hot – this can happen with mismatched drivers. For example, if the driver produces 700 mA but the LED needs 350 mA, this will stress the LED and reduce its lifespan. Higher ambient temperatures than the LED is rated for will also reduce its expected lifespan.
Why are LEDs considered more efficient?
LEDs may have lower lumen values than conventional light sources in many cases. However, LEDs are directional light sources, so all the lumens emitted are directed towards the task area. Conventional sources emit light in all directions, which must then be redirected with reflectors and lenses. The amount of lumens that falls on the intended task area is therefore greater with an LED light source.
Does increasing the wattage of LEDs increase their output?
This may occur with the same product from the same brand, with the same optics and hardware. In general, however, the components (optical system, heat sink, LED chip and driver) affect the output more than the wattage does. A 3 W luminaire from one manufacturer will have a different output than a 3 W luminaire from another, even with the same LED chip. Note that as wattage increases, efficiency drops slightly.
Is lifespan reduced if the LEDs are frequently turned on and off?
Unlike discharge lamps, LEDs are semiconductors and their lifespan is not affected by the number of times they are turned on and off.
What does IP65 mean?
The two numbers following “IP” (Ingress Protection) describe protection against solids and moisture. 6 = totally dust-tight and 5 = protection from low-pressure water jets from all directions.
What does IP67 mean?
The two numbers following “IP” (Ingress Protection) describe protection against solids and moisture. 6 = totally dust-tight and 7 = protection from temporary immersion in water.
What is CRI?
CRI is the colour rendering index – a measurement of light quality, whereas lumens measure light quantity. It is a scale from 0 to 100, where 100 is excellent. LEDs are typically in the 70–95 range. The higher the CRI, the more expensive the LED chip and the product.
